Climbing Onion on Trellis (Bowiea volubilis)
A member of the lily family from South Africa, Climbing Onion is an old favorite thatâs easy-to-grow and puts on a fanciful display. In late winter, vining stems emerge from the bulbs, or âonions.â With great vigor and determination, they grow up the 10â wooden trellis for support. As they mature, dense lacy branches form and create a full appearance. Star-shaped flowers sometimes appear in summer. When fall and winter arrive, if you see the foliage dying back, clip off the dried stems and reduce watering. New shoots will start appearing once the plant comes out of dormancy. Climbing Onion is an unusual plant that generates interest and excitement throughout the year. The wooden trellis is included as shown in the photo. Decorative pot not included.
