Coco Loco Plant (Cocos nucifera)

Here’s an unusual gift for any gardening enthusiast. The Coco Loco Plant, or Dwarf Green Malaysian Coconut, is shipped with the plant growing out of a coconut as shown in the photo. People in zones 9-11 can plant it in their outdoor garden where it will reach up to 50’ tall and produce flowers and coconuts in as little as 5 years. If you live in northern zones, grow it outside during the warm summer months and inside during the winter. It adds a tropical feel to the indoor garden. The oval coconut is covered with a light green husk and the woody shell protects the edible white coconut meat and sweet water. Coconut has many health benefits including: powerful antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal, energy booster, increases metabolism and promotes healthy thyroid function. In India, it is called kalpa vriksha meaning “the tree that provides all the necessities of life.” Sold as a large plant in a 6” pot with a terracotta colored pot cover (as shown in the photo).
