Dwarf Hawaiian Mulberry (Morus species)
Everbearing and ever growing under mild conditions, this Dwarf Hawaiian Mulberry is perfect for container culture. It fruits when very young, often covering its branches with fruit when only 12â tall with a growth habit that is somewhat open and spreading. This sweet tasting fruit, which is about an inch in length, turns black when ripe. Its hardiness is unknown, as we are still in trials, but it is grown in tropical areas, so we are listing it as zone 9. In Hawaii, it grows to be a moderate size shrub or small tree. In cool sunny greenhouses in the Northeast, it flowers in October with fruit ripening in February. It does not seem to go into a dormancy like most mulberries do during the winter.
