Jujube fruit start out green and turn to a mahogany color when ripe. They can be eaten fresh and taste similar to a sweet apple. Fruit can be left on the tree to dry or picked and dried. Commonly called Chinese dates, dried Jujube fruits are not as sweet as true dates but the flavor is similar and they will keep for months stored in an airtight container. The small trees are densely branched with a shrub-like appearance and a spring flowering season. Jujube ‘Li’ is self-fruitful so you only need one plant for fruiting. Recommended in zones 6-9.
